I do indeed see a need to clarify the differences in the God we worship, but I believe He can be rightfully called Allah. This is simply a generic term for God in arabic, and one they are comfortable with. Though I don’t have a ton of experience in this area, I would say that Jesus the the first term we need to clarify. If we can focus their attention on the proper understanding of Him, then I believe their understanding of Allah will change accordingly.

I’ve enjoyed reading some of your blog and particularly enjoyed your evangelism guide for Muslims — thank you for sharing and for your faithful commitment to the Gospel of God. I have a few Muslim friends who have come into my life who desperately need Jesus; I will likely use your presentation as a resource in our continued relationship.

I was curious, however, about your use of Arabic terms for Jesus/God. While I firmly agree with presenting the Gospel in their heart language, I wonder if we wouldn’t be confusing them by accidentally presenting “our Allah” as pretty much the same as “their Allah,” with a few technical differences. As we both know, the Christian Yahweh is very different from the Muslim Allah. In the discussions that I have had with my friends so far, I’ve found it necessary to clarify that we do not, in fact, worship the same God, even if we may both trace our faith heritage back to Abraham. I have considered only using the Hebrew terms when I talk about God, to avoid confusion. What are your thoughts on this? I hope I don’t sound like I’m saying “I’m right, you’re wrong,” I’m just curious about how to rightly divide the word of truth for my friends.
